Event Info
In this event Coach Mark and Coach Kutay will be playing against a room full of players by themselves! Each opponent will play their own game of chess on their own board, meaning that if there are 20 opponents the coaches must keep track of 20 games. They will take turns moving on each board, but will not be able to discuss plans with each other, meaning that both players will have to adjust for the other’s ideas, play style, and mistakes!
As they will have many games to play, they will need to be quick and decisive with their moves, as all of their chess clocks will be running at the same time. Running out of time usually means a loss! (See below for details on the word “usually”.)
If they win all of their games this will be an exceptional display of skill and teamwork. And if you beat them, you get a prize!
If there are enough sign ups, we will be holding an additional simultaneous exhibition where one of our students attempts the same feat.
When: February 9th — 11:00am - 1:00pm
Where: 6043 Transit Road, Suite 101B, East Amherst, NY 14051
Entry Fee: Free!
Prizes: Special gift bags for any winners.
Time Control: Minimum 1 hour; will be increased depending on number of participants.
All players are welcome!
Rules for Running Out of Time
In chess running out of time is an immediate loss so long as your opponent has enough material left to force a checkmate. In short, if you run out of time you will lose if your opponent meets any of the minimum requirements listed below:
1 Pawn (due to the ability to promote into a Rook or Queen)
1 Rook
2 Bishops
1 Knight + 1 Bishop
3 Knights (2 Knights CANNOT force a checkmate)
There are the minimum requirements. As such, the Queen is not listed as she could be considered an upgraded Rook.
