Parents' Night Out: Chess Movie Night

Enjoy food and a movie with us!

Join us to watch the classic chess movie “Searching for Bobby Fischer,” the tale of a young chess prodigy who must face harsh competition and heavy expectations. This film teaches lessons about sportsmanship, being true to oneself, and handling competition gracefully. According to Common Sense Media, this film is appropriate for ages 8+, and it is rated PG. Two curse words are spoken during the movie; please email me if you would like details on them.

All students will be fed! We will be opening the “Snack Attack Snack Shop” during the event, where students can “buy” snacks. All participants will be given equal amounts of “ChessBux” which will be the only accepted tender at the snack shop. The shop will sell pizza, hypoallergenic candy, popcorn, and a few other snack options. No nuts of any kind will be present! Water will not cost Chessbux.

After the movie, we will discuss the film’s themes and what we liked and disliked about it. Materials for quiet play (such as coloring supplies) will be available for any students who tire of the film.
