“Chess is an international language.”

— Second Chess World Champion Emanuel Lasker

All ages are welcome. Children under 7 must have parents stay for the duration of the class.

Buffalo Chess Association, Bridges From Borders, and AYLUS are teaming up to bring you a fun class for students of all ages!

This class will be taught by AYLUS and Bridges From Borders student leaders, who will be overseen and guided by BCA instructors. Come to learn, grow, and play chess!

#OneWorld Chess is aiming to promote diversity, inclusion, and friendships among people of different ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities through the game of chess. The program is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can come together, learn from one another, and build lasting connections through the shared experience of playing chess.

Volunteer Coaches will be shown how to run a classroom, design lessons, and manage a group. Many skills will be developed, including:

  • Conflict management/de-escalation techniques

  • Empathy

  • Leadership

  • Personal Responsibility

  • Public Speaking
